Find a Scape Goat

So now they're trying to fabricate a reason to blame computer games for the actions of a troubled individual. Get real folks! If a person has trouble separating reality from fiction, it's NOT the fault of the game!

I can't believe the media is going along with this nonsense! C'mon, folks! a person is responsible for his/her own decisions even if that person has trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality. It's like blaming cars for auto accidents.

OK, enough of my ranting. We have a DVR now! :) Yay! That means we aren't held at the mercy of the networks anymore! We can play with the girls without missing our most favorite television shows. Yeah, that means we're really boring, but that tends to happen once you've had kids and they aren't in their teens yet. :) Once they get to their teens, I hear things get really interesting...

I think I've been working too much. I have a touch of the illness that has been going around for the last few weeks and haven't been getting the rest I need in order to fight it. I think I'm losing the fight though. Each morning finds me feeling worse than the previous. I need a day off in the middle of the week. I think that would help. I think I'm going to go to bed early tonight as well so I can get an extra hour or so of sleep. It might make a difference. :) Please send me "Get Well Soon!" vibes so I can get back to normal. Thanks! :)

Okay, this has nothing to do with your post, but... 2,000 miles? Um - that's not a lot is it? I mean, you have the hat?!

What favor can I do for you so that the next time you go near that storage space you unearth this outfit for me?

Desperately yours,
OTJ

At the risk of being respectfully disagreeable, I agree that video games (AND other media - movies, music, television shows) do play a big part in today's youth in establishing the standards of what is and is not appropriate as far as actions and values are concerned, particularly in the case of those whose parents have chosen not to teach their kids right from wrong. Where I go off on a rant is when they say parents should never spank their kids because THAT causes the violence. Controlled discipline can teach right and wrong. Statistically children who were spanked are no more violent than those who weren't (taking into account that some kids like Dianna are born so "good" they never get spanked), and much research has been done that shows the link between participating in violent games, movies, and music and acts of violence.

Not every kid that plays a violent video game will become violent. Virtually every violent kid has played violent video games. A lot. For those few who CAN'T distinguish truth from reality, violent video games are poison.

I don't think they should be outlawed, but I do think there are many not appropriate for young kids that they are playing. And inappropriate movies they are watching. And rap they are listening to. And I don't allow them in my home. Parents need to take responsibility for knowing what is appropriate for their kids.

Just like the cars and auto accidents. Is it appropriate to let your 16 year old drive if you KNOW he doesn't have the maturity and will be in a accident for sure? Who is to blame? The car, the kid, the government, or the parent?
